& Mentorship

Building Bridges Between Students and Veterinary Medicine

The decision to study veterinary medicine starts with a passion for helping animals. But we know that life can often get in the way of doing what we love. Maybe you don’t see anyone in the profession that looks like you. Or maybe you start to second-guess whether you have what it takes to work in animal health. Perhaps the financial obligation is preventing you from taking the next step.

We’re here to help mitigate those obstacles – and more. Our veterinary scholarship program is more than just financial aid for BIPOC students. It’s designed to create accessible pathways for more underrepresented students to obtain veterinary degrees through preparation, mentorship, internships – and of course, financial assistance.

Financial Aid that Empowers

The DVMC aims to create more accessible pathways to veterinary medicine for BIPOC students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  If you have a dream of becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, we want to invest in your development and growth through our multi-year scholarship program.
We are excited to announce that in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), we are proud to offer financial assistance to outstanding students attending one of TMCF’s member schools that include 47 publicly-supported  HBCUs and Predominantly Black Institutions (PBIs). Five (5) scholars will be selected to receive a fall need-based scholarship up to $10,000 for the 2022-2023 academic school year (which can only be applied to verifiable costs associated with average tuition and usual fees).

Mentorship That Guides

In addition to financial aid, the DVMC will match veterinary scholarship recipients with a paid internship opportunity at one of our member organizations. Students will complete the internship the summer before their final undergraduate year of education. For personalized direction and guidance, we will assign an industry mentor to each student throughout the experience. More details on the DVMC mentorship program will be shared soon!
